Make Kitty beautiful

Hello all and Merry Christmas ready for the big day!

Dolly has been busy with her vintage unit due to the Christmas market we had at the weekend which was very successful! Check it out at facebook.com/Dollysdelights or The Nichols Building for more information. Due to this, Kitty VanderCamp has been left alone to withstand the elements, a good thing really as I cannot imagine driving over to the Peak district in snow.

I am still working away making curtains, seat covers, cushions, tie backs..etc. I really don't like the delay now, it was so nice over summer as I felt I could really crack on with everything I wanted to do however I knew winter would slow things down.

I am starting to plan and map put where I would like to paint certain colours inside Kitty along with flooring and of course the 'tarting up' bits which is definitely my favourite bit..It also means she is done at that point ready to enjoy!

As for now I shall relax with a glass of wine and a mince pie ready for the new year when I can get stuck in again on the project of making Kitty beautiful!

Retro and fabulous darling!

Poor Kitty VanDerCamp, she is laying in wait as I continue to work on the interior stuff, mainly sewing the new covers for the seats, cushions and curtains. Sounds like a lot? Yep, seems to be because everything is so large! However it will be worth it as all of these bits can stay at the house until spring.

I am excited as after this stage I can begin to paint the inside some beautiful colours, mainly white and pastel - Very fifties.  I hope that every surface (including the tables) can be painted to give Kitty a mega fresh finish, also some wallpaper will be used. The two things I would love to keep are the tiny blind in the kitchen area and the wallpaper in the bathroom both very retro and fabulous darling!

So for now I can only spend the cold dark nights sewing and planning like mad in order to get her ship shape.. I cant wait to paint so I need to try and sew fast!

Love and hugs,

It will be worth it when she looks fabulous.

HAPPY BONFIRE NIGHT TO ALL!
I'm sure Kitty VanDerCamp has a great view as she sits in the open air of the peak district, lucky girl : )

On my last visit to Kitty I gave a little time first of all to her surroundings by raking the leaves around her which seem to fall quicker than I can collect them, however at least I can see all of her now and I am pleased to say she is still looking clean.

I thought I would be brave and start on the roof, very hard without a ladder but it was a good test run of neat bleach which, may I say, gets a van roof back to pristine white..Very handy to know.
Then it was time to start on the inside as the outside is all done for now. I have taken out all the soft furnishings which have gone home ready to re-cover, one of which is already done. With those few bits out of the way I could continue to scrub the inside, including the ceiling. I was so amazed at the great condition she is in, it is simply that she has been left untouched - The tiny little oven and extractor fan are in immaculate condition as are the insides of cupboards and the fridge, a real testament to the previous owners.

As the day drew to and end and the light faded I had to call it a day, as Kitty takes shape I feel bad leaving her all alone on these dark cold nights, it will be worth it when she looks fabulous in spring!
Watch this space as Kitty is due to move to a new pitch on the site and I am hoping we get the one with the washing line and twee picket fence!

Her true colour is white!

Welcome to the new blog about 'Dollys Daydream' - Here you will receive information, posts and photos about my new caravan which I have already begun working on.

Let me introduce you to my caravan, she is from the early 80's (like me!) and is now called KITTY! She is based at Peak Park Caravan site which is within a quarry in the beautiful Peak District National Park, she is surrounded by woodland and stunning views as well as a few other cheeky caravan friends. ; )

She was owned by a couple who loved her dearly and the family were very keen to hear that she would be restored and cared for as she used to be....

As we pulled up to the site recently I was reminded what a state the van was in, she was so dirty. To my relief all of the muck could be washed off with a brush, bleach water and a lot of hard scrubbing! I discovered her true colour is white and that the spiders on the cobwebs on the inside of the windows could be persuaded to leave which was a relief.

The interior is dated and worn so the first thing I did was take down the nets and curtains to let the light in, these were 'removed' and I have already begun with making new curtains and cushions, however there's a lot to do before they can be put in, next step? Another clean on the outside and then a scrub of everything inside before taking off any upholstery fabric to be replaced. Having fun already though! : )

The dreaming begins..

Dolly had a vision, a daydream about a wonderful place full of wonderful things, things that have a back-story and a life. She dreamt that one day all these things could come together and be cherished and adored!
Whilst in the woods one day she pondered over an unloved, unused caravan which seemed to be calling her over.
The daydream got stronger. With a little time and some love this could be something! A caravan that could be brought back to life with a vintage style make-over and some homely treasures.

And so it began, Dolly's Daydream..
